paiquit

Hafa "paiquit?" In the early 1900s on Guam, certain games played for gambling were in violation of E.G.O. (Executive Government Order?) No 124. One of them was a "moneyed game" called "paiquit." At least that is how it was spelled in a judicial document, where five people were arrested in 1909: Enrique Sanchez, Lucas Aguon, Antonio Sanchez, Manuel Aquiningoc, and Maria Deza.

CHamoru Roots 5K virtual walk/run…Biba! The limited edition medals have arrived! Registration is now open and limited to 100 people.

This is a self-paced virtual 5K run/walk event in support of the CHamoru Roots Genealogy Project that can be ran (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym, or on the track (or even at another race). Although some of the information identifies Tamuning, Guam as the location, you get to run your own race at any place, at your own pace, and time it yourself. Some families and people even do it as a group with a prearranged date, time and location.

1792 Levesque CHamoruWoman

These sketches are  from three artists (Felipe Bauza, Juan Ravenet and Fernando Brambila) from the Malaspina Expedition’s stopover in the Marianas island, which lasted under a couple of weeks. The expedition reached Guam 12 Feb 1792 (Levesque, pg. 447) and departed out of Umatac on 24 Feb 1792 (Levesque, pg. 489) to the port of Palapag.

The works of these artists can be found in Madrid, Spain at the Museum of America and the Naval Museum.

The original draft sketch of the woman is apparently missing or somehow disappeared. (Serrano in Levesque, pg. 573)

File Space for Library Update: Sunset Averted👍🏽

I was able to find a web host provider that offers up to 200GB of file space. I completed transferring the website over the weekend. I did have to remove some of the newspaper files because they had the largest file sizes. I am currently reviewing all the file sizes and doing what I can to compress their sizes as much as possible.

Because of this change and also increased prices, there is only one subscription plan available and it does include access to the Library files.  For those on the database only plan, you will continue to be grandfathered with that plan until your subscription ends. I have not increased any of the subscription plan rates. Thank you for your understanding and support.
