Presenting the Gerard Aflague Collection

I recently met Gerard Aflague (Famlian Catson and Je'je) on Facebook as he was posting some of his very own poster artwork. Gerard, recently opened his website (http://gerardaflaguecollection.com) and I think some you may find of interest. According to his website the "Gerard Aflague Collections are unique, one-of-a-kind, graphically vivid, illustrations of varying media. Gerard, a digital graphics illustrator, has developed very distinctive and tasteful art, and has made his poster collection available for purchase on this website for both retail and bulk sale.  Gerard, a former resident of Guam, is now a Coloradan living in Denver. He fervently works on new designs weekly, and makes them available online." If you would like to be notified when he publishes a new illustration, his website provides for the option to be included in email notifications. I actually spoke with Gerard over the phone tonight and he is currently working on a poster to feature the Familian Je'je clan family tree; his maternal lineage.

I enjoy promoting our Chamorro people's work and business, and more so when it's tied to promoting our culture and heritage. I encourage you to support his efforts. Take a few moments and visit the Gerard Aflague Collection and support our Chamorro artists!

1920 Census Index File Images

For all you subscribers to the Genealogy Library, I have just completed adding the 1920 Census index for Guam. This is quite a valuable to tool, since families are listed (hand written) on index cards, somewhat alphabetically. The document gallery is arranged alphabetically by folder (letterwise), but the index cards on each sheet are not quite in order on the microfilm. Here's an example of some of the index cards, which I believe was the last time the US Census Bureau performed this type of organizing. If you're not a subscriber to the Genealogy Library, you're missing out on the digitized images from the microfilms.

Research Tip: Names Recorded in the 1897 Census

When researching names in the 1897 Census (Patron de almas: Ano de 1897), the Spaniards recorded names with the father's surname first and then the mother's maiden surname last. For example the recording of Ignacia Chargualaf y Nasayof should be interpreted as Ignacia Nasayof Chargualaf.
