Jesus Manalisay Mata was born on December 22, 1920 and is the son of Blas Chargualaf Mata and the former Carmen Cruz Manalisay.
He served in the Navy and became one of the unfortunate Pearl Harbor casualties while aboard the U.S.S. West Virginia on December 7, 1941. Among the many places and websites, his name is memorialized at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, Hawaii and the Guam Memorial Wall in Guam. Jesus held the Navy rank of Mess Attendant First Class.
Shortly after the end of World War II, Jesus’ body was brought back to Guam, where he received full military burial honors.
